CARPENTERS ORGANIZING

The Vision

This campaign is about carpenters coming together, both organized and unorganized, to take back the construction industry.

The way it is right now, the unorganized carpenters are at the bottom of the economic equation.  They are working harder with little opportunity for training and increased work prospects, savings for the future or providing for the needs of their families. Whatever the workers issues are, the way this industry treats the workers can be summed up with one word:  Disrespect.  Even though they build the wealth for others, the industry does not respect these workers.  They are merely commodities.  Like equipment and land, they are just another piece of the puzzle.

The industry will not solve these workers problems for them.  They must come together and take control of their own destiny.

It will be  a struggle.  Workers must be aware that this will be a fight, but like many before them if they stick together and stay with the plan, ultimately they will win.

The industry will resist this change, even though in the long run this will be a stabilizing force and will be good for the industry.  Low wages and low skills are not in the long term best interest of the construction industry.  This is a path of self destruction.

We must save this industry in spite of itself.  What these workers are doing is good for them and the industry.  The Northern California Carpenters Union is merely the vehicle for this change.

The workers do not need the government, attorneys or employers to tell them when they are a Union.

The Union begins when they say it does.
